JSON Viewer

Can I open a JSON file in the browser?

Yes, you can open JSON files directly in modern browsers. Simply drag and drop the .json file into your browser window, and most browsers will display the JSON with basic formatting. Chrome, Firefox, and Edge provide syntax highlighting and collapsible structure for easier reading. However, for better visualization and features, use our JSON Viewer at jsonconsole.com/json-viewer which offers tree view, search functionality, expand/collapse controls, and better navigation than browser default viewing. Browsers treat JSON files as plain text, so they will not execute any code—it is safe to open JSON files locally. For local file system access, modern browsers may require user interaction to open files for security. You can also copy JSON content and paste it directly into our online viewer without opening files. Our viewer provides features specifically designed for JSON inspection that browsers do not offer built-in.
